You’re Planting too Soon

I am the worst offender of this. As soon as there is a warm sunny day I break out the gardening gloves and head outside. I am fully aware that the snow and frost will destroy my dreams a few more times, but I can’t help myself.

This year, I feel that, I have better restrained myself. The old me would start buying up plants as soon as they made an appearance in the stores. You know the ones, the teaser plants. But this year I put my energy into planning and preparing.

First, while the weather was still cool I photoshopped ideas for the front yard. More to come on this in another post.

On the first warm day I worked the raised beds, weeding and tilling the soil.

On the next day I organized pots and containers, deciding on which seeds would go into which pot and where they would be placed.

This past holiday weekend we weeded one of the blueberry beds, thinned out the strawberries, relocated some raspberries and planted broccoli, kale and lettuce.

Now it is just a matter of planting seeds at the right times and seeing what pops up.
