Self-seeding Gardening

The garden that grows itself or in other words the lazy man’s garden. Not that I am a lazy gardener, in fact quite the opposite, but why not reuse and and regrow. But I have to admit I didn’t mean to start this method. Remember I am just a beginner.

Two springs ago I planted garlic and onions and after no luck at all I chalked them up as a loss. Then last year out of no where pops up onions. And what is popping up this spring garlic. Two summers ago I also planted cherry and pear tomatoes. I must have missed picking a few because not only did they come back last year but they took over a whole bed. I was picking and picking until I was over tomatoes. I did, however, let some of my large tomatoes fall and am hoping they come back this year.

Another surprise and one that I am fully embracing came out of our compost pile. Just like in Cinderella, a large vine appeared small at first and then stretched it’s way along the yard to form a perfect pumpkin. Our discarded jack-o-lantern guts had produced anew and after another Halloween carving we replanted to regrow.

While I like the “let’s see what pops up” mentality. I do still like to plant new and different seeds and plants and am still figuring out what works best for my family.
